Album Review: George Gadd – Thorneloe EP

Upon hearing that Birmingham-based George Gadd is an acoustic singer/songwriter, many will automatically jump to the conclusion that he sounds like Ed Sheeran/Ben Howard/City & Colour. But after hearing his latest EP ‘Thorneloe’, this talented young man is anything but those aforementioned artists.

Opening track ‘Bride/Beast’ is a minute and a half of sweeping vocals and sweet guitars. Moving swiftly onto ‘Women I Belong To’, folk-inspired acoustic guitars are featured while George’s vocals climb ever higher.

His honest lyrics are heart-wrenching, and once you listen to this EP, you want more and more. ‘Leave Me in The Dark’ and ‘Glass Bottom Boat’ both demonstrate his talent. Soaring vocals and roaring choruses make for beautiful tracks.

Closing track ‘Dutch Courage’ is a perfect way to end this colourful EP; a toe-tapping track, we’re thirsting for more from George Gadd.
