Album Review: Gone By Tomorrow – Blank Future EP

Gone by tomorrow blank futureMany people will say that metalcore-based music died a few years ago, but bands like Gone By Tomorrow are out to prove them wrong. Melting the poppy aspects of bands like We Came As Romans with huge crushing riffs a la Parkway Drive, Gone By Tomorrow are out to give metalcore a much needed facelift.

Unfortunately much of ’Blank Future’ simply dates it even more. From opener ’Undefined’ to closer ’Homecoming’, this record doesn’t provide anything that we haven’t heard before.’I Saved Latin, What Did You Ever Do?’ offers a saving grace with its catchy as hell melody and soaring clean vocals. One thing that cannot be questioned is the musicianship on show here. The blistering riffs and thunderous double kick parts echo throughout every song, keeping things moving at a ferocious pace.

’Blank Future’ is a solid EP with some great production and some good ideas. Perhaps it is wrong to expect something completely off-the-wall when a proven formula seems to work for fans and bands alike. Fans of late early ‘10s metalcore will probably love this, it ticks all the boxes, but it’s hard to hear past the cliches for the most part.
