Despite being only three tracks in length, ‘Eleanor’ manages to encompass I Swim With Sharks distinct, as they put it, “guitar driven aggro pop” style in just over ten minutes.
Although they are not the most complicated of songs, the trio get away with it by making up a string of catchy riffs and choruses that are memorable even after a couple of listens. This is a clever move whether it was intended or not.
Opening track ‘Hey’ begins with Luke’s raw, low vocals, his sounds well suited to I Swim With Sharks style. These vocals combined with promising riffs and a bold chorus make this a definite contender as strongest track on the record. ‘Help’ is another strong contender and a good way to end the record, a powerful song with yet more memorable lyrics that had me singing along past the first chorus.
‘Eleanor’ is a very good effort from I Swim With Sharks, and although I feel like it’s over before it’s begun the tracks in fairness are fun and easily remembered. There is some room for improvement, perhaps if the trio added more depth to their song writing; some sections in the tracks were slightly repetitive albeit catchy. Nonetheless, this is a very commendable record offering a bunch of fun, sing-a-long tracks that are easy to listen to.
