Hailing from Manchester, Cascade is born out of two defunct bands; Fort Worth and Undercolour. With both bands meeting their natural end, the four-piece came together to form Cascade.
With both of their former bands having plenty of road miles under their belt, Cascade is a fresh start for its members as they take their experiences and combine them with influential bands such as Hands like Houses, Pvris, and Bring Me The Horizon.
They’re shortly set to release their second single, ‘Deadwight’, and today we have the exclusive first play of its video. The track is an impassioned slice of melodic post-hardcore that subtly incorporates atmospheric elements amongst stringent guitars and soaring vocals.
“‘Deadweight’ is about how modern life has become reliant on material possessions such as electronic devices and social media apps etc,” explains drummer Scott Jackson.
“These things were designed to help better our lives, but they’re increasingly becoming a burden. People are becoming more and more reliant on them to seek gratification and put pressure on themselves to maintain an ‘online’ persona. They create anxiety and it seems that nobody speaks face to face any more. The song is just a reminder that we’re all human and we shouldn’t be afraid to speak to people face to face and not be defined by a ‘social norm’.”
With the lyrical theme of being tied down by material possessions, the video sees someone carrying an anchor around. “We liked the symbolism of it and thought it best to have an inanimate object to represent it, an actual ‘Deadweight’ if you will” states Jackson.
On the making of the video, the band worked with Rob Bashford, videographer and former bass player of Manchester band Lost Atlanta. “After seeing the videos Rob had shot previously, we knew that we wanted him on board. We discussed our ideas and he was able to bring his experience to the table and suggest ways to make it better translate to the screen. We definitely look forward to working with Rob again in the future.”
It certainly looks like we will be seeing more from Cascade as Scott explains; “we are excited to announce that we’ve just signed with Red Cardinal Music Management. We’re working closely with Liam Connolly (the mastermind behind the Deadbolt Clubnight Franchise). We’re busy honing the set ready to play some shows and you can expect to see us in a town or city near you starting this summer.”
‘Deadweight’ by Cascade is released on August 6th.
