Tomorrow, Midland-based punk project Mixtape Saints will be releasing their new single, ‘Heartbreak, Radio, Cars And Rain’, through Disconnect Disconnect Records. Originally the brainchild of songwriter/guitarist Sam Moloney, Mixtape Saints has evolved to become a dynamic project; occasionally seen as a solo outing but in recent years has transformed into a full band project.
Joined by Dan Kiener (guitar), Mark Bussey (bass), George Bussel (drums), Mixtape Saints have collectively shaped a punk rock sound that is carried with heart and soul, taking its cues from the work of Bruce Springsteen, Brian Fallon and The Menzingers.
While they’re putting the finishing touches to a forthcoming split with Wolves&Wolves&Wolves&Wolves, Already Heard is premiering the lyric video for ‘Heartbreak, Radio, Cars And Rain’. We also spoke to Sam Moloney about the song, its video and Mixtape Saints’ future plans.
AH: Today we’re hosting the lyric video for ‘Heartbreak, Radio, Cars and Rain’. What can you tell us about the song?
Sam:
‘Heartbreak, Radio, Cars and Rain’ is a song we wrote a while ago so we’re really pleased to finally be able to put it out. It’s kind of about finding being in a pretty desperate situation and finding a way to be ok when everything’s not ok, and to just keep going. Most of our songs are a mix of positivity and negativity and this one’s no different.
AH: What was the inspiration behind the video itself?
Sam:
I write a lot of our lyrics and melodies including the ones for ‘Heartbreak, Radio, Cars and Rain’ when I’m driving. We wanted to try and capture that in the video, so I just jumped in the car with my partner Tashi and just started driving while she filmed out the windscreen. It’s all one shot without cuts or anything so it’s almost like a POV of driving through the city.
AH: What’s coming up next for Mixtape Saints?
Sam:
We’re currently working on tracks for a split EP with our friends Wolves&Wolves&Wolves&Wolves from the U.S. We met them when they came over last year, and we’ve been desperate to put out a record with them ever since. They’re a great band and really lovely people, so we’re stoked it’s happening! We can’t reveal all the details yet.
Other than that, we’re just trying to book shows and get out and play as many places as possible. The punk scene in the UK is really great right now, so it’s awesome to play so many shows where you end up falling in love with so much new music.
‘Heartbreak, Radio, Cars And Rain’ by Mixtape Saints is released on 11th August on Disconnect Disconnect Records.
