Meet Pretty Pistol. Based out of South London, the quartet’s origins begin in Birmingham where singer Laura Le Rox and drummer Emma Waller met each by chance at a Hole show in 2010. Five years later, they teamed up with guitarist Billy Larsen and bassist Rich Cooper to form Pretty Pistol in Camden.
Since then, they’ve been honing their frenzied brand of garage punk with new single, ‘Cry Wolf’, being a short and sharp example of what the quartet has to offer. Its snarling punk rock tone is reminiscent of Gallows, Milk Teeth and Be Your Own Pet; fast but addictive. Ahead of its release tomorrow on Say Something Records, we’re premiering the video for ‘Cry Wolf’.
“The song is about being caught out, people can be dicks and ‘Cry Wolf’ is about finding out that you’ve been fucked over and it sucks,” explains Laura Le Rox. “Playing this song live is all about getting the hurt and shitty feelings out, like a kind of music therapy.”
‘Cry Wolf’ is the first taste of what Pretty Pistol have to offer. Produced by John Mitchell (Architects, Enter Shikari, You Me At Six), the quartet will be teaming up with him again in the new year. In regards to their future plans, Le Rox told us “we’re very excited to be collaborating with our good friend and producer John Mitchell at Outhouse Studios again in January. Recording with someone as successful as John has really opened our eyes to the possibilities we have as a band.
“We’ll be releasing another single early next year and following that up with the EP release around March, April time. We’d also like to start playing further afield, so we’re looking at putting together a run of dates in the new year, we’ll keep you posted”
While their long-term goals consist of new material and travelling up and down the UK, their immediate future sees playing their first headline show at The Black Heart in Camden on December 6th, where they will be celebrating the release of ‘Cry Wolf’. It comes off the back of support names such as Penetration, KidBrother, Drones and Crazytown. “The Black Heart is one of my favourite venues” states Le Rox. “We always have a good time there and we’ve got some ace supports joining us for the night, it’ll be our first headline show so we’ll be pulling out all the stops!”
‘Cry Wolf’ by Pretty Pistol is released on 17th November on Say Something Records.
Tickets for Pretty Pistol’s show at The Black Heart in Camden, London on December 6th are available through DICE and Music Glue.
