Last September, Danish four-piece Vola released their exceptional debut album ‘Inmazes’ to plenty of acclaim. Consisting of technical prog rock interlaced with electronic and pop elements, the album is a dynamic and compelling experience. Today we’re premiering the stunning animated video for ‘Emily’.
Sitting at the softer end of Inmazes, ‘Emily’ eschews the grinding metallic guitars in favour of beautiful ambience more akin to Massive Attack than Meshuggah. A far more considered track than the throwaway pallet cleansers often associated with progressive metal, ‘Emily’ stands up to any of the other songs on Inmazes, demonstrating Vola’s wide range of influences.
The accompanying video was created by bassist Nicolai Mogensen and his girlfriend Anne Nørkjær Bang, and captures the sparse, bleak tone of the track as the couple used just paper and pens.
‘Inmazes’ by Vola is out now on Mascot Records.
