This past Thursday night, Banquet Recorsds owner Jon Tolley won the Grove ward by-election. The result sees Tolley becoming Lib Dem councillor and will be part of Kingston Council.

Tolley spoke to the Kingston Guardian about his election victory:

“It has been a long election campaign and so many people have been involved. I owe so many people my thanks. The whole reason for running is to make Kingston better than it currently is.”

The Banquet Records show owner gained 1577 votes in the by-election, prompted by the death of former Liberal Democrat councillor Chrissie Hitchcock. His closest rival, Conservative Jenny Lewington, received 688 votes; 889 less than Tolley.

Tolley discussed the election campaign on Banquet Records’ Tumblr page.

Jon Tolley also recently appeared on Scroobius Pip’s ‘Distraction Pieces’ podcast where he discussed his reasons into getting involved with local politics, the New Slang club night, Banquet Records and more. We think it’s a worthwhile listen and is highly recommend. You can listen to it here.
