Irish duo Bicurious are gearing up to release their new album, ‘Your Life is Over Now…’ on 4th October through Big Scary Monsters. Having played last weekend’s ArcTanGent Festival, they’ve shared a second song lifted from the record.
‘Uncle Kevin’ soars through a sonic wall of guitars, while lyrically maintaining the theme of family that threads ‘Your Life is Over Now…’ together.
“”Uncle Kevin’ is a very emotional song, and speaks of a difficult family situation that someone very close to me has been going through since they were a child,” explains Bicurious guitarist/vocalist Taran Plouzané. “It’s something that happens to so many people, and I hope the song brings something positive to someone out there who might have gone through a similar situation.”
For drummer Gavin Purcell, the track has a different meaning to him. “This track gets me right in the gut, especially the outro. The crescendo with the lyric “You’ll never be alone” sung throughout reminded me of the last phone call I had with my friend Hannah before she sadly passed away,” Purcell states. “The voice note at the end of this song is one I got from Hannah in relation to a funny song from a TikTok she sent me. ‘Uncle Kevin’ wasn’t written about Hannah, and it was written before she passed away, but I suppose that’s one of the great things about music – it can create different meanings for different people, and those meanings can change over time.”
Swaying between math-rock riffs, post-rock progressions and noisy breakdowns, Bicurious formed in Dublin in 2016. Their debut full-length, ‘(re)constructed’ dropped five years later to critical acclaim, capturing the attention of ArcTanGent, Portals, and The Great Escape festivals.
Its follow-up, ‘Your Life is Over Now…’, sees Plouzané and Purcell join up with Big Scary Monsters Records. Bicurious will mark its release with headline shows in the UK and Ireland.
