Last month, Michigan emo-punk group Charmer announced plans to release a new album, ‘Downpour,’ through Counter Intuitive Records on May 23rd. Today, they’ve shared its second single – ‘Blue Jay’.
It sees the quintet produce another punchy number executed with emotional weight. It sees Charmer vocalist/guitarist David Daignault reflect on a life-changing decision and wonders if he made the right call. “It’s about a specific day that completely shifted my life’s direction. If that day never happened, I’d be living in a different reality. I still don’t know if it was a good thing or not, but maybe I’ll figure it out in the next 60 years,” says David.
It highlights Charmer‘s evolution as songwriters. Their 2018 self-titled debut saw them sing about absent college love interests, ‘Blue Jay’, and ‘Downpour’ as a whole, go deeper exploring themes such as adulthood, grief, and healing. ‘Blue Jay’ pairs this with pensive urgency and melodic grit.
