Hear Citizen’s new single – ‘If You’re Lonely’
To mark the news of Citizen‘s new album, they’ve shared a video for its first single. ‘If You’re Lonely’ sees the quintet serve up a summery, jangly slice of alt-rock that is considerably a stylistic departure from what we’re used to from Citizen.
Its introspective lyrics are influenced by singer Mat Kerekes’ challenging upbringing and his own journey of self-discovery. “I grew up around a narcissistic parent and absorbed a lot of that behaviour over time, negatively affecting people close to me,” he stated. “‘If You’re Lonely’ is about recognising that, growing from it, and becoming a reliable shoulder to lean on.”
