Last Friday, Creeper closed the chapter of their 2023 album, ‘Sanguivore’, with a one-off headline show at KOKO in London. However, in typical Creeper fashion, as one door closes, another opens; they announced plans to release a sequel. With ‘Sanguivore II: Mistress Of Death’ set to be released later this year, today the theatrical rockers have shared the album’s first single, ‘Headstones’.
Charging with a stylistic nod to ’80s British heavy metal, ‘Headstones’ captures Creeper in arena-ready form. Ian Miles and Lawrie Pattison share duelling guitar solos as William Von Ghould duly plays the grandiose frontman. Lyrically, it maintains the band’s fascination with vampire mythology.
“’Headstones’ is the first glimpse into Sanguivore II: Mistress of Death. Set in a blood-drenched vision of the 1980s, it follows a vampire rock band on a tour soaked in violence and excess. It features some of our heaviest and most theatrical guitar work yet, echoing Iron Maiden, with Lawrie Pattison and Ian Miles trading solos in the bridge,” comments William Von Ghould. “It’s also the fastest single we’ve released in years. Lyrically, it sets the stage for what’s to come in the album’s narrative, exploring the dark perils of rock ’n’ roll, sins of the flesh, and pure evil. This is the band at its most over-the-top and unashamedly dramatic. But as our hero Jim Steinman once said, “Sometimes going all the way is just the start.”
The coming months will see Creeper play various festival dates throughout Europe, including this weekend’s Rock am Park / Rock im Ring. They’ll be back in the UK in August to play on the Ronnie James Dio Stage at Bloodstock. They’ll end the year supporting Ice Nine Kills on their UK arena tour.
