Download Festival Preview: The Qemists

As the road to the Download Festival becomes shorter by the day, we will be speaking to a whole host of acts from this years festival about what to expect from them at Download 2015.

With the likes of The Prodigy, Chase & Status and Pendulum having appeared at Download in previous years, the festival has a history of incorporating dance and drum & bass amongst the wealth of rock and metal acts. Brighton’s The Qemists are on hand this year as they bring their mix of rock and drum & bass.

Having previously played numerous European festivals and toured alongside Enter Shikari, The Qemists are sure to bring a fun, energetic show when they play Jake’s Stage this Sunday.

With a new album, ‘Warrior Sound’, set to be released later this year, Download is the perfect opportunity to catch The Qemists.

We spoke to guitarist and studio producer Liam to find out what he thinks about Download 2015.

AH: Why should fans check you out at Download?
Liam: To put it simply, we offer something unique that people won’t see anywhere else at Download!

AH: What can we expect from your set?
Liam: We will be previewing some of the new material from our forthcoming album ‘Warrior Sound’. So new tunes will be a big feature. And for those that haven’t seen us before, you can expect ballistic energy dance rock fusion that will knock ya teeth out!

AH: What other bands are you looking forward to seeing?
Liam: We will def check out our mates and collaborators Enter Shikari, they always have a massive show going on. I have to see Slash as this man was a major inspiration for me to pick up the guitar in the first place. And if we can make it down on the Saturday then Faith Know More. Mike Patton was another collaborator of ours so it would be epic to see the man in action live!

AH: What are your memories of previous Download Festivals?
Liam: This will be my first Download! (I know, the shame!) but everytime I have wanted to go we have been booked to play in geographically challenging locations. So I am eager to see what awesome memories this years edition of the UK’s premier rock festival can make for me.

AH: What advice would you give to people attending Download Festival?
Liam: Having not been before it’s a tough one, but there are always universal festival tips.
– Don’t camp at the bottom of a hill (not good with heavy rain).
– Except the fact you won’t see all the acts you want to see.
– Don’t wait until the end of the weekend to use the loos.
– Don’t fall asleep in the sun after consuming ten plus pints allowing your friends to colour you in from head to toe in a range of coloured sharpies and lipsticks, creating a lovely sunburnt rainbow effect, combined with the worst hangover you have ever imagined! (personal experience)

AH: Do you have anything else you’d like to say?
Liam: Please come see us on Sunday afternoon at Download, we will go beyond making it worth your while!

The Qemists will be appearing on Jake’s Stage at 4:50pm on Sunday June 14th.
