Dream State Return with ‘Bloom’

Dream State

Ahead of kicking off a UK tour later this month, Dream State have dropped a new single. ‘Bloom’ is considered by the Welsh group as an “exploration into different genres” yet maintains their volatile hook-laden sound. It is also the first piece of new material since this past January’s ‘Still Dreaming’ EP.

Commenting on ‘Bloom’, vocalist Jessie Powell explained how the track came together. “I vividly remember Aled (Evans) and I jamming the verse riff in an Air BnB somewhere in Germany,” says Jessie. “It started with rhythmic ideas and I think that stands for a lot of the track with its Drum & Bass and Latin influence too. Aled does his thing and finishes off the demo, then the vocals and drums get developed after.”

Having been through a transformation in recent years, due to Powell, bassist Jake Bowen, and drummer Tom Connolly joining Evans as a new-looking Dream State. However, having proved doubters wrong, ‘Bloom’ is a thank you to the band’s fans.

“Lyrically, the song is about how much the fans’ support means to us all, but how with each step we take there’s a greater feeling of pressure which can sometimes make it difficult to enjoy the present moment,” explains Powell. “It’s hard not to look to the next show, tour or studio session and you can quite easily get wrapped up in anticipating what’s next instead of what’s right in front of you.”

Dream State‘s UK tour kicks off in Cardiff next week. They’ll be supported by Australian band RedHook.
