Feature: “If I…” with Canterbury’s Luke Prebble

Having recently finishing a UK tour and with their second album, Heavy In The Day” set to be released this Summer, 2012 is set to be a big year for South England rock band Canterbury.

Bassist/vocalist Luke Prebble is the first person to be involved in our new regular “If I…” feature, which sees members of bands reminiscing and wishing on a range of topics.

If I could re-record one song it would be…
A song called ‘Lost in the Basement,’ just to bring it up to date a little bit. I think we recorded it in about a day, so it would be nice to take a little more time over it.

If I could re-live one tour/show it would be…
Probably our most recent show in at the KCLSU in London. It was the biggest headline show we’ve played to date, and the crowd was just unreal. We were all very proud afterwards, and it would be amazing to re-live it.

If I had the chance to play one venue it would be…
The Olympia Theatre in Dublin. We all have a big soft spot for that venue, and although we’ve been lucky enough to be a support band there a couple of times, we dream of being able to headline it. But for venues we’ve never done, maybe the O2 Arena (in London).

If I could play with one band it would be…
The mighty Jimmy Eat World. I’ve always wanted to do a tour with, or at least play a show with them.

If I could play with any person living or dead it would be…
Bob Marley, although as a band we might not necessarily fit the bill or, of course The Beatles.

If I could bring back any band that have split up, it would be…
An awesome Welsh band called VivaMachine, or The Beatles.

If I wasn’t playing music, I would be…
A ski bum in the Alps.

If I could play a different genre, it would be…
Psychedelic instrumental soundscapes.

If I could have written any song, it would be…
‘Hotel California’ by The Eagles.

If I could have written any album it would be…
‘The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me’ by Brand New.

If I could headline any festival, it would be…
Reading and Leeds weekend. we’ve grown up going to it and it’s what probably sparked our passion for being in a band.

If I could organise my own festival, the bands playing would be…
On the main stage; Black Keys, Coldplay, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, and in a tent I would have Skrillex, Band Of Horses, Cold War Kids. Plus lots of others to be announced.

If I could play any other instrument, it would be…
The harp.

Canterbury will be part of the Slam Dunk Festival in Leeds and Hatfield on the 26th and 27th of May respectively.
