From the ashes of The Sleeping comes Night Verses. Featuring The Sleeping’s Douglas Robinson, the quartet released their debut EP, ‘Out of the Sky’ for free earlier this week.

Produced by Kris Crummett (Man Overboard, Alesana, Emarosa, Dead And Divine, and more) ‘Out of The Sky’ is four songs of pummeling hard rock delivered with a subtle dark demeanor and plenty of urgency.

As part of our ongoing “If I…” series, Already Heard caught up with vocalist Douglas Robinson and guitarist Nick Depirro to find out what tour they wish they could re-live, what musician they wish they could play with, their fantasy festival and more.

If I could re-live one tour/show it would be…
Nick Depirro: I was fortunate enough to see Rage Against the Machine’s comeback show at Coachella in 2007. That was probably the most intense show I’ve been to. I’ve never felt that much energy surging through a crowd/band, and would love to experience it again

If I had the chance to play one venue it would be…
Douglas Robinson: I’ve played so many great venues but I would like to eventually play on a ferry around NYC and/or Wembley.

If I could play with one band it would be…
Douglas Robinson: Foals.

If I could play with any person living or dead it would be…
Douglas Robinson: I would like to sit in a room and write music with Fiona Apple. I would also love to have shared a stage with The Clash.

If I could bring back any band that have split up, it would be…
Douglas Robinson: No Knife. everyone should check out a song called ‘The Red Bedroom’. .

If I wasn’t playing music, I would be…
Nick Depirro: Recording/producing music. I enjoy hearing the growth of songs in a studio, and it would be fun to be part of that all the time. If I wasn’t doing anything musical though, I would definitely be attempting to become a professional Chef.

If I could play a different genre it would be…
Nick Depirro: Metal. I love listening to and writing heavy music.

If I could have written any song it would be…
Douglas Robinson: ‘In Your Eyes’ by Peter Gabriel, ‘Superstition’ by Stevie Wonder or ‘I Hope You’re Unhappy’ by an old band called Farside.

If I could have written any album it would be…
Nick Depirro: ‘Lateralus’ from Tool. This is literally the only CD that I’ve never grown tired of. It’s been in my constant rotation since I was a kid. There is something about the tones/atmosphere’s they were able to create, amongst such good songs, will most likely never be replicated for me

If I could headline any festival, it would be…
Douglas Robinson: Glastonbury, Coachella, Reading and Leeds.

If I could organise my own festival, the bands playing would be…
Nick Depirro: Since this would be about pleasing my own tastes, I would have – Tool, Opeth, Isis, Deftones, Thursday, Rage Against the Machine, Misery Signals, Veil of Maya, Rx Bandits, Mastodon, The Mars Volta, Radiohead, A Wilhelm Scream, Meshuggah, to name a few.

If I could play any other instrument, it would be…
Nick Depirro: Drums. They intimidate me more than any other instrument I’ve tried.

If I could give one piece of advice to a new band, it would be:
Nick Depirro: Pick a common goal that you all agree on achieving, and stick with it. Don’t settle for anything less than what you want, and don’t let other people steer your direction too much. Make music you genuinely care about. Work hard, promote, and practice a lot. Stay as active as possible, and treat everyone with respect. Don’t depend on others to work hard for you. Make things happen for yourself.
