Minneapolis upstarts Gully Boys have debuted a new single called ‘Love Me 2’. Drawing on influences like Paramore, Metric, and Foo Fighters, the quartet delivers a sharp break-up anthem that is equally vicious and tender.
Rooted in its pounding punk stomp, ‘Love Me 2’s words flourish with the demand for emotional maturity and mutual respect. It results in an assured, infectious track. Its accompanying video sees Justin Courtney Pierre of previous touring buddies, Motion City Soundtrack, make a cameo appearance as an unknowing grocer of what Gully Boys are about to do.
‘Love Me 2’ is the latest in a series of singles and EP’s Gully Boys have released in recent years. Formed in 2016 by thrift shop co-workers vocalist/guitarist Kathy Callahan (she/her) and drummer Nadirah McGill (they/them), they would be joined by bassist Natalie Klemond (she/her). After gigging around Minneapolis, they welcomed guitarist Mariah Mercedes (they/them). Since then they’ve played at SXSW and shared stages with Nova Twins, Motion City Soundtrack, and Destroy Boys. They’ll be heading out on tour with Skating Polly in the States next month.
