For their new video for ‘Soulbreaking Machines’, multi-national, London-based alt-metallers Hawxx have taken a documentary-styled approach.
The clip combines footage of HAWXX performing alongside portraits and interviews from protestors at a recent Extinction Rebellion demonstration. The purpose of the video is to raise awareness of the urgent need for climate action.
Whether or not you agree with what Extinction Rebellion stand for is up to you, but you can’t disagree with what Hawxx have served up with their new single. ‘Soulbreaking Machines’ sees the feminist four-piece deliver an alluring and impassioned slice of alt-metal, highlighting their four-part harmonies and stirring guitar riffs.
On the song, Hawxx commented; “The soulbreaking machines are the systems that turn everything into profit, commodifying the natural world, our creativity, our time, and our very minds. As if the only way to exist within capitalism is to shut down the part of ourselves that says ‘this is not okay, we are killing everything’. The need for money just to exist keeps us so busy that we don’t find time to actually sit and consider whether we endorse the life we are living. This song questions how we can stop and listen, to remember that we ourselves are nature; that this is happening to us.”
HAWXX will be hosting a single launch show this Saturday (June 3rd) at Camden’s Black Heart, London.
