Rising post-rock outfit Hiroe have shared details of their debut album. The Philadelphia group will release ‘Wield’ through Pelagic Records on June 20th.

Since forming in 2022, the quitent has grown a respectable reputation in American post-rock circles. As their new track, ‘Tides’, showcases, Hiroe can deliver powerfully melodic and heavy instrumental numbers. It’s bounded together by a majestic soundscape that is thoroughly compelling.

“The intention for ‘Tides’ was to evoke aural imagery akin to an unstoppable force colliding with an immovable object. Our studio intern’s observation perfectly captured this sentiment: “it sounds like a soundtrack for Godzilla fighting King Kong,” said Hiroe. There’s an undercurrent of frustration woven into the song. It serves as a metaphor for the very universal human experience for us all – the constant challenges, both monumental and mundane, that we all face in a struggle to exist.”

The band, consisting of Eric Kusanagi, Jill Paslier, Brian Kong (all guitars), Jon Seiler (bass) and Dan Sagherian (drums), promise to build on what 2022’s ‘Wrought’ EP did, focusing on textural intricacies and compositional detail. ‘Wield’ sees them once again working with producer Mario Quintero (Spotlights), the six-track effort will see Hiroe expand their musical palette.

“We wanted to show a larger range of musical themes on this record,” says guitarist Eric Kusanagi. “You’ll hear us dive into some synth work, some piano work, some really interesting effects that Mario helped us dial up.”
