In late April, House of Protection debuted with ‘It’s Supposed to Hurt’. The former Fever 333 members Aric Improta (Night Verses) and Stephen Harrison (The Chariot) have now revealed their second track – ‘Learn to Forget’.
Improta’s machine gun drums instantly fuel the energetic number, with Harrison leaning into a hardcore punk sound in the track’s verses. While the chorus line of “Spare me, Everything in your head” is executed with an anthemic quality. Nevertheless, ‘Learn to Forget’ proves to be a brilliant musical assault.
“’Learn To Forget’ feels very close to home for us as musicians. The pace, the riffs, the drum fills, it all leans towards music we grew up playing,” explains House of Protection. “We wanted to find a way to keep that in our sound, but not be limited by it. Jordan was really good about finding ways to take that energy and blend it with the production aesthetic we used on the other tracks. It’s definitely one we look forward to playing live.”
In terms of live shows, the duo will be making their live debut in Los Angeles at 1720 on September 24th. This will be followed by their UK debut at the Underworld in London on October 15th. Tickets are available here.
‘Learn to Forget’ Lyrics
Picked myself up from the dirt
Right before I said it’s supposed to hurt
Just like a lesson I never fucking learned
I need a witness
Is this the thanks I get?
I have to learn to forget.
Spare me
Everything in your head
(There’s a reason your alone)
Barely
Ever making any sense
(We were lost for way too long)
So when you bite your tongue
and act like its permanent
Let myself become the worst
Then I saw it was not what I deserve
Just like a lesson I never fucking learned
Your gonna feel this
Is this the thanks I get?
I have to learn to forget.
Spare me
Everything in your head
(There’s a reason your alone)
Barely
Ever making any sense
(We were lost for way too long)
So when you bite your tongue
and act like its permanent
Change your tone but
no one’s really buying it
I need to learn to forget
I need to start again
I never never felt the regret
I never felt so alive
Spare me everything in your head
Barely ever making any sense
Spare me
Everything in your head
(There’s a reason your alone)
Barely
Ever making any sense
(We were lost for way too long)
So when you bite your tongue
and act like its permanent
Change your tone but
no one’s really buying it
I can’t say that anybody gives a shit
Is this the thanks I get?
I have to learn to forget
