WWE NXT’s Matt Riddle: “I’m totally one of the top guys” (Download Festival 2019)


“One day I could be in NXT, the next I could be fighting Brock Lesnar on the main roster. You never know anything is possible in this world I live in now.”

The Download Festival is always more than just seeing some of the best and brightest names in all things rock. 2019’s gathering hosted a plethora of attractions from fairground rides, DO.OMYoga, the UK air guitar championship and more.

One of the main [side] attractions in recent years has been the addition of pro wrestling with WWE annually showcasing names from its NXT brand. While this year saw emphasis put on its NXT UK roster, some of the superstars from the main roster based in the United States made the trip over to Donington.

Amongst them was Matt Riddle. The former MMA fighter, signed with WWE last summer following a stellar three-year spell on the independent circuit that saw ‘The Original Bro’ become a fan favourite throughout America, the UK and Europe. Since joining WWE, Riddle has become of the fastest rising stars on NXT.

As he made his Download Festival debut, Matt decided to mark the occasion with some new ink. Sêan Reid spoke to Riddle about his new tattoo, being one of the top guys within NXT, who he’d like to face from the UK roster along, with the host of recent arrivals in NXT back in the States.
