Hear Kusanagi’s New Single (‘Spacial Awareness’)

When we recently launched our ‘Songs of the Week’ feature, one of the first bands to be included was Liverpool’s Kusanagi. Today, they’ve shared a track titled ‘Spacial Awareness’.

Taken from ‘Paramnesia’ (released May 30th on Ripcord Records), ‘Spacial Awareness’ hones in on Kusanagi‘s dynamic and atmospheric sound. For seven minutes, the quartet demonstrate their intricate song craftsmanship. Yet beyond the soaring post-rock guitars, ‘Spacial Awareness’ has a deeper meaning. Each track on ‘Paramnesia’ is linked to “abstract dreams,” and promises to take listeners between “sonic dream portals”.

“We revisited this particular track numerous times throughout the writing process and realised that one of the core elements of the track was the middle atmospheric section. It really complimented the sonic vibe and aesthetic that worked with the track title, which was one the earliest ideas that the band initially had,” Kusanagi shared. “The definition of what the alternate title means is basically the awareness of objects and structures that move through different times and space. We thought that this particular definition worked well with the main musical idea that we focused on during the early writing sessions of the track.”

“Focusing on this section, another key element that was written was the opening bass line intro that set the foundation and structure of the track. This then inspired the other members of the band to contribute their musical components, and that gave the entire track a particular musical direction that worked with the general aesthetic and concept of the album.”

In addition to ‘Spacial Awareness’, Kusanagi‘s third album will feature past single ‘Polymorph’ among its eight tracks. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.
