Indie/emo favourites Lakes are preparing for an eventful summer, which includes the release of their fourth album, ‘Slow Fade’, and shows supporting The Get Up Kids. The Watford-based outfit has shared another track from the record, ‘ Hypernow’.
It sees vocalist/keys player Cat Rowland take the lead, stamping her mark with authority as her bandmates deliver a plucky, twinkling sound. Joined by vocalist/guitarist Roberto Cappellina, ‘Hypernow’ maintains Lakes‘ delicate and subtly pensive tone. For Cappellina, he says the track is “about not being present and thinking about the band ALL the time.”
With the band’s DIY work ethic, ‘Hypernow’ sees Lakes‘ Roberto Cappellina reflect on how his determination has taken his focus away from other matters. “It’s one of those where I wasn’t really sure what it meant until after we’d tracked it,” Roberto shares. “I definitely carry a lot of guilt for not thinking twice about missing a birthday or a wedding for years on end, and I think at some point it’s put a strain on all of our relationships.”
Ahead of ‘Slow Fade’s release on July 4th via the band’s own label, Lucky Art, (in collaboration with UK indie label Big Scary Monsters), Lakes will be supporting emo legends The Get Up Kids. They will be joining the band as they celebrate 25 years of seminal record, ‘Something To Write Home About’.
