Laura Jane Grace In The Trauma Tropes, Grace’s latest project with her wife, Paris Campbell Grace (vocals), Jacopo “Jack” Fokas (bass) and Orestis Lagadinos (drums), is marking Pride month with an anthem of acceptance called ‘Wearing Black’.
It sees the quartet pay tribute to the black cloth-wearing punks and goths who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. ‘Wearing Black’ is Grace as lyrically fearless as ever, blending humour, love for the LGBTQ+ community, and political defiance. It’s wrapped up in a sharp, rebellious punk rock skin with a snappy, powerpop hook.
It’s the latest track to be released from Laura Jane Grace In The Trauma Tropes‘ forthcoming album, ‘Adventure Club’. The album is released through Polyvinyl Co. on July 18th. It’ll feature previous singles ‘Active Trauma,’ ‘Mine Me Mine,’ and ‘Your God (God’s Dick)’.
The record is the result of a transformative artist residency in Athens, Greece, last year. Laura and Paris immersed themselves in local punk scenes, culture, and camaraderie. What began as a one-off collaboration with Greek musicians evolved into a full-length record co-written with the band that would be named The Trauma Tropes. Fueled by adventure, community, and a spirit of personal evolution, the album blends protest and playfulness in equal measure. It’s a bold, reflective work that redefines what it means to be punk at 44.
‘Wearing Black’ Lyrics
Wearing Black!
Wearing Black!
Wearing Black!
Wearing black to the pride parade
ACAB but the gays are OK!
Wearing black to the pride parade
I love the faggots, I love the gays
Jojo Siwa is playing at 2
She’s got that karma and some Tito’s too
The sun is shining it’s a beautiful day
All the queens are coming out to play
Leather Daddies and Diesel Dykes
They’re all here and they’re riding their bikes
Chicago pride fit check, makeup reveal
Rhinestones are the theme of the year
Wearing black to the pride parade
ACAB but the gays are OK!
Wearing black to the pride parade
I love the faggots, I love the gays
4:30 at the Gingerman
Meet Toby there, that’s the plan
A bunch of gays getting drunk in the street
A bunch of gays doing really gay things
I’ll wear my rainbow another day
My pride’s a riot, it’s not a parade
Too much Molly and the Spirit Brigade
I’ll see you there at the front of the stage!
Wearing black to the pride parade
ACAB but the gays are OK!
Wearing black to the pride parade
I love the faggots, I love the gays
Wearing Black!
Wearing Black!
Wearing Black!
Wearing black to the pride parade
ACAB but the gays are OK!
Wearing black to the pride parade
I love the faggots, I love the gays
