Having toured their native homeland of Australia and impressed fans in the US on Warped Tour, Tonight Alive are three dates into their first debut headline tour in the UK and ready to impress the Manchester crowd.
First up are Blitz Kids who play their way through their hook laden rock songs which unfortunately falls on deaf ears as the crowd is only just starting to arrive. Showcasing a new song called ‘Warrior’ the crowd seems to enjoy it and will be interesting to hear the rest of the new album when it’s released.
For a band that has supported some of the scenes biggest bands, LostAlone have always gotten great reviews and tonight solidifies that fact. Frontman Steve Battelle puts everything into his performance from jumping and bouncing around on stage to going into the crowd and hearding the crowd closer to the stage he knows how to work the crowd. Songs off their new album like ‘Creatures’ and ‘Vesuvius’ sound huge live and certainly impress the crowd.
As the crowd gets bigger and more people move in closer to the stage awaiting Tonight Alive the opening song ‘Eject, Eject, Eject’ plays gently in the background, the band then come on bursting into ‘Breaking and Entering.’ Playing through most of the songs on their recently released ‘What Are You So Scared Of’ album, they all sound catchy and slightly heavy at the same time.
Busting out older songs like ‘Five Years’ and ‘Revenge & It’s Thrills,’ the crowd reacts by singing along to every single word. Throwing in not just one but two cover songs; Rufio’s ‘In My Eyes’ and the anthemic Mumford & Sons’ ‘Little Lion Man.’ It shows the band can just about do everything right. Finishing with ‘Wasting Away,’ it closes what was a great set from a band on the cusp of something great.
One thing is for sure tonight and that’s that the band sound amazing live and have alot of energy putting everything into their set. Jenna McDougall is a great front woman as she dances, commands the crowd with ease and belts out some impressive vocals at the same time it shows she has definite star quality. With a combination of great songs, an impressive live set and sheer determination Tonight Alive will be sure to have bigger and better things on the horizon.
