Fast-rising LA-based group, Militarie Gun, have shared details of their much-anticipated debut album.
It’s called ‘Life Under The Gun’ and will be released on June 23rd through Loma Vista Recordings.
Who are Militarie Gun?
Militarie Gun was formed by Ian Shelton in 2020. Having relocated to Los Angeles and being forced into lockdown due to COVID-19, Shelton went into a songwriting overdrive with the end result being the ‘My Life Is Over’ EP.
Since then, the band has been rounded out by guitarists Nick Cogan and William Acuña, and drummer Vince Nguyen, with a flurry of touring activity and new material coming in the form of two EP’s and ‘Pressure Cooker’, a collaborative single with Dazy.
2022 saw them join Loma Vista Recordings with the ‘All Roads Lead To The Gun’ EP’s being re-released and given the deluxe edition treatment.
Tell me more about ‘Life Under The Gun’
The 12 tracks that makeup Militarie Gun‘s debut full-length promise to be “bigger and catchier”. Having honed in a melodic hardcore punk sound in three short years, frontman Ian Shelton commented that ‘Life Under The Gun’ is the culmination of what the band should’ve sounded all along.
“It’s always felt like a melody-forward band to me, but I think now we’re finally achieving what I was always setting out to do,” says Shelton.
‘Life Under The Gun’ was engineered by Taylor Young at The Pit Recording Studio.

Watch the video for ‘Very High’ – a tongue-in-cheek homage to the 90’s and 00’s teen-drama TV genre
Alongside the album announcement, Militarie Gun have shared a video for ‘Very High’. The Mason Mercer-directed clip takes a tongue-in-cheek tribute to those US teen drama TV shows that used to constantly be on Channel 4 and E4 back in the late 90’s and 2000’s; One Tree Hill and Dawson’s Creek.
The track itself brilliantly exemplifies Militarie Gun‘s jangly brand of melodic hardcore punk in an all-too-brief two minutes. It’s certainly a track that leaves us wanting more.
