Belgian shoegaze group Newmoon are preparing to release a new album, ‘Temporary Light’, on March 22nd. As a preview, the Antwerp quintet have shared a new track called ‘Eternal Fall’.
With its dreamlike vocals and layered, hazy guitars, the track captures Newmoon‘s brand of atmospheric shoegaze brilliantly. Lyrically, it sees them hone in on themes of isolation and decay, complementing the haunting tone that breathes through the track.
“While writing, we knew we wanted to incorporate some new elements”, singer and guitarist Bert Cannaerts explains. “We all have a love for less traditional music and have always looked at ways to introduce some of the elements into our own songs. “Eternal Fall” is the result of that. Working on this song was very refreshing for us. I remember referencing stuff like Massive Attack and loads of ambient music while writing it. A song that feels very different yet familiar at the same time.
‘Eternal Fall’ is the second track to be lifted from ‘Temporary Light’. Previous single, ‘Fading Phase’, was released in late October.
‘Temporary Light’ will be released through [PIAS] Recordings (EU) and Manifesto Records (US).
‘Eternal Fall’ Lyrics
Disassociated life, control me
Wishing on a starless night, my body
Views that we could do without, corrode me
See the fall and hear the cry, come join me
Waning crescent fading light, control me
Failing systems creep around my body
Do you feel the rot inside corrode me
See the smoke divide the light, come join me
