Playlist: The Best of UK Pop-Punk by Homebound

Homebound

Homebound

Ever since releasing their debut EP, ‘Coming of Age’ in 2014, Farnham’s Homebound have gradually been growing their reputation as one of the UK’s underrated pop-punk bands. Fast-forward to the present day and the quartet are now releasing their fourth EP – ‘More To Me Than Misery’.

Having firmly conquered the usual pop-punk traits in the past, ‘MTMTM’ highlights a lyrical maturity from quartet, adding a gritty undertone to the band’s sound. Over the course of its six songs, vocalist Charlie Boughton provides an honest narrative as he reflects on what he has described “possibly the best and worst year of my life”. Songs such as ‘Coming Clean’, ‘Yours Truly’ and ‘Change of Heart’ sees Boughton and his bandmates band explore the pitfalls of searching for happiness in love and life.

Having been part of a thriving UK pop-punk scene in recent years, Charlie has curated a playlist he considers the best of we have to offer, in terms of pop-punk. From trailblazers to previous tour buddies, Homebound have picked out an all-round stellar list of UK pop-punk favourites.

As It Is – The Wounded World

I really dig the post-hardcore vibes on this track and the general change in direction with their new material.

Boston Manor – CU

Probably the most exciting band around at the moment. I’ve always been a big fan. One of my favourites from this very good record (‘Be Nothing’).

Decade – Turn Off Your TV

A highly under-appreciated band because this album (Pleasantries’) is awesome.

Fullshore – Wine

I came across these guys a while back when they opened a show we played and really liked what I heard. I hope to hear more from them.

Futures – Sal Paradise

A serious throwback but what a band they were!

Gnarwolves – Melody Has Big Plans

I was very into this when it dropped. It’s still one of their best in my opinion.

Neck Deep – Over and Over

This track still rips and it can’t be understated what this band did for the UK scene.

ROAM – Over Your Head

I always really liked this track, there’s some really cool melodies and sections throughout.

Save Your Breath – Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy

Arguably the best UK pop-punk song there is. ‘Vices’ and Save Your Breath deserved better.

Trash Boat – Nothing New

We played some of our first ever shows together, and always have a great time touring with them. Their new record rips and they deserve everything they’re doing.

Weatherstate – Bad Habits

We ripped many a gig back in the day with these boys. One of their many bangers.

WSTR – South Drive

We played a few shows here and there with these back when they toured this EP (‘SKRWD’). This was definitely a favourite.

WOES – Be Alone

This has a great chorus. It was instantly stuck in my head the first time I heard it!

You Me At Six – Call That A Comeback

Seeing as they just announced an anniversary tour for this album (‘Take Off Your Colours’), I thought I’d pick my favourite track from it.
