With Bowling for Soup kicking off the ‘Get Happy Tour’ this weekend, to celebrate Already Heard has put together a playlist of songs suitable to have a bloody good smile to, featuring a who’s who of bands from ‘GHT’’s past and present.

What better soundtrack could you need to spike your hair and break out your new Vans in preparation for the feel-good pop-punk party of the year.

Bowling For Soup – I’m Gay

If there was one song that sums up the spirit and attitude of the Get Happy Tour it would be this one. Relentlessly upbeat, dripping with pithy, humorous quips and with more profound depths than you might expect. Jarett puts it best himself in the simplest of terms”It’s perfectly fine to be a happy individual”

Bowling For Soup – Friends O’Mine

’Friends O’Mine’ marked one of BFS’ first forays into including songs with serious intent alongside the gags and sarcasm. The autobiographical acoustic number puts the listener inside the van with the band for an audio trip down memory lane, complete with an ode to good friends, lost friends and one too many beers.

Army of Freshmen – Get Um Up

Taken from their second album ’Beg, Borrow, Steal’, this track serves as the perfect introduction to Army of Freshmen. Bouncy, immaculately crafted pop-punk guitars intertwined with playful synth licks – check, energetic, verbose wordplay delivered with tongue twisting precision by Chris Jay – check, irresistible, riotously fun chorus hooks and impassioned vocals from Kai Dodson – check and check! This tour will see one of the most criminally underrated pop-punk outfits of all time make a return to the UK.

Army of Freshmen – Concrete Hope

2012’s ’Happy To Be Alive’ saw Chris Jay and his Freshmen cohorts in a more mature, thoughtful mood. ’Concrete Hope’ saw them produce their most rounded sound to date with keys duelling with their trademark synths and typically exuberant guitars. A reflective, but still feel good chorus highlighted the importance of holding on to hope in any situation.

The Aquabats! – Super Rad!

Completing this year’s Get Happy Tour line up are pop-punk, new wave comic book heroes come to life The Aquabats! ’Super Rad! see’s the quintet in particularly inspired Ska-infused form, underlining everything that makes them both such a fun listen and the ideal choice for a tour engineered to make fans smile.
