After a brief break over the Christmas period, “Something For The Weekend” makes it return this week and once again we have another guest writer taking over.

The guest writer for this week is Nick Moreton from UK Emo label – View From The Attic Records. Self-described as “two 90’s emo kids who just don’t know when to give up,” VFTA Records launched in March of 2012 and has become a reliable distributor for releases from Count Your Lucky Stars Records and Tiny Engines. With releases from Restorations, Snowing, Everyone Everywhere, State Lines, Dowsing and more in its back catalogue, 2013 will see the label venture into its own original releases.

For his stint as guest writer for “Something For The Weekend,” Nick has picked four bands he highly recommends and in some cases, has been lucky enough to work with.

If your label or band would like to become a guest writer for Something For The Weekend contact Sean Reid to find out more information.

I picked these bands simply because, in every single case, more people need to be aware of the great music coming from these artists. They’re also some of the nicest people I’ve met, and in many ways this is a thinly veiled attempt to butter them up so that we can work with them on the label.

There Will Be Fireworks
For Fans: Idlewild, Twilight Sad, Smashing Pumpkins.
In my opinion these guys are the best band in the UK, simple as this. I love this band more than I could possibly do justice here. Just listen.

The Winter Passing
For fans Of: Tigers Jaw, Save Ends, Everyone Everywhere.
Wonderful pop punk with the emphasis on the pop. Discovered through the very mighty Already Heard. Listen once, sing all day. We’ll be working with these guys in the very near future, with releases pencilled in for spring 2013.

Gates
For Fans Of: Deep Elm Records and Jade Tree.
Incredible New Jersey based old school emo band. I promise I’m not using this as a platform to promote our own shit, but you can pick up their début 12" (‘The Sun Will Rise and Lead Me Home’) from our webstore, and we’ll be stocking their new record (‘You Are All You Have Left To Fear’) once it’s pressed.

Time Spent Driving
For Fans Of: Benton Falls, Mineral, and Christie Front Drive.
A band from back in the day that not enough people know. Like Gates, for fans of that old school emo sound. Deserved to be huge, so do yourself a favour and pick up ‘Walls Between Us.’
