With 72 million global streams to their name, it’s clear Los Angeles-based quartet Dead Poet Society is doing something right. And from hearing today’s song of the day – ‘My Condition,’ it’s easy to see why. It’s the latest track to be lifted from their upcoming third album, ‘FISSION’. The track captures DPS‘s various shades of rock, blending anthemic alternative rock, with progressive indie rock.
With its gang vocals and radiant tone, ‘My Condition‘ has an infectious quality that makes ‘FISSION’ a promising proposition. “This song took years to write and it’s one of our favorites. It’s about knowing that nothing matters, so might as well go for what brings you fulfilment and do what you want,” Dead Poet Society frontman Jack Underkofler said when commenting on the track.
As for ‘FISSION,’ the record is described by Underkofler as “a microscopic and broad look at the events that changed who we are”. Its 13 tracks have an introspective spine as DPS examines the personal changes they’ve been through in recent years. Yet despite these changes, as ‘My Condition’ shows, DPS has found a sense of acceptance.
The track is the latest in a handful of singles. Previously, ‘Running In Circles’ and ‘HURT’ exemplified the band’s heavy, textured side with hints of Muse on the latter, while the former highlights Dead Poet Society‘s anthemic qualities. There’s also the monstrous ‘How Could I Love You,’ with its throbbing riffs.
‘FISSION’ arrival on January 26th comes off the back with shows alongside Biffy Clyro, Badflower, and Highly Suspect. While they are no strangers to these shores, having previously appeared at both Download and Reading & Leeds Festival.
Dead Poet Society will be bringing ‘FISSION’ to the UK and Ireland in March.
