Song of the Day: Shower Beers – ‘Pete Wentz Doesn’t Know The Name Of Our Band’

New York City-based trio Shower Beers have a simple ethos – punch listeners in the mouth with catchy hooks and massive choruses. The pop-punk group live up to their promise on the comically (and admittedly honestly) titled ”Pete Wentz Doesn’t Know The Name Of Our Band’.

Collectively, it sees Chris Diorio (guitar/vocals), Sean DeKay (guitar/vocals), and Joe Berson (bass/vocals) provide a nostalgic blast of straight-up pop-punk while paying tribute to “the city that never sleeps”. As the band explained, ‘Pete…’ carries a simple, positive message; “Throw on your favourite jeans, order a caffeinated beverage, and prepare to get your Vans dirty, because it’s never a bad time to have a good time in your city.”

Aided by Boston indie rockers We Demand Parachutes, Shower Beers pays a stylistic nod to Mr. Wentz’s Fall Out Boy, while the annoyingly addictive “na na na”s are lifted straight from turn-of-the-millennium era blink-182. “We very clearly found it in their recycling bin,” Shower Beers joked.

The track is lifted off their forthcoming second EP, ‘Miracle on 34th & 3rd’. With producer Rob Freeman (Gym Class Heroes, Cobra Starship) on board, along with guest spots from Australia’s SoSo, glimmers from Atlanta, and Orlando’s Outatime, it provides Shower Beers with plenty of potential. For example, ‘London’ (featuring glimmers) highlights the trio’s sincere side, detailing the urge to get away. Whereas ‘One More Shot’ (with Soho) leans into a heavier side of pop-punk, with added gang vocals. Overall, Shower Beers pack plenty of punch.

‘Pete Wentz Doesn’t Know The Name Of Our Band’ by Shower Beers is out now. ‘Miracle on 34th & 3rd’ EP is due to be released in the Spring.
