Song of the Day: The Lonely Surf – ‘Happiness’

The Lonely Surf

With a huge chorus, infectious melodies and honest lyricism, there is a lot to like about ‘Happiness’, the latest single from The Lonely Surf.

Released last month through Disconnect Disconnect Records, ‘Happiness’ rounded off an eventful 2023 for the South Coast indie punks. Previous single, ’12 Months Out’, proved to be a summer anthem, being given airplay from BBC Introducing, Kerrang and Amazing Radio.

On the live front, The Lonely Surf toured with the likes of Ducking Punches and The Deadnotes, while also appearing at festivals such as BBC Introducing Live, Teddy Rocks, and Gold Coast Oceanfest.

As for ‘Happiness’, it captures the quartet’s melodic hooks with sincere lyricism, drawing comparisons to The Menzingers. While its driving chorus is reminiscent of Twin Atlantic and You Me At Six.

“Happiness is a song about moving on from relationships and reflecting on times when you could have done better. It’s also about the weird stages you go through after a relationship ends and losing sight of what gives you your sense of self,” explains The Lonely Surf vocalist/guitarist Dom Wright,
