Having announced plans to call it a day earlier this yearSum 41 have shared details of their final album. ‘Heaven :x: Hell’ will be released on March 29th, 2024 through Rise Records.

As you can guess from its title, ‘Heaven :x: Hell’ will be a double album with one-half (‘Heaven’) consisting of punk songs, with the other half (‘Hell’) honing on the Canadian group’s metal side.

“Once I heard the music, I was confident enough to say, ‘This is the record I’d like to go out on,” shared Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley. “We’ve made a double album of pop punk and metal, and it makes sense. It took a long time for us to pave this lane for ourselves, but we did, and it’s unique to us.”

The announcement of ‘Heaven :x: Hell’ has been accompanied by a new single. ‘Rise Up’ is taken from the ‘Hell’ portion of the record, and it shows with its rapid riffs and pounding drums.

“Writing ‘Rise Up,’ I felt the way I did when I first got signed,” says Deryck. “I felt the pressure and the need to create something great, but I felt so excited at the same time.”

Sum 41 has a history for making entertaining videos and ‘Rise Up’ fits that description. It sees the quintet board a lengthy flight to Tokyo. In between giving some mid-flight entertainment, the group are joined by an array of colourful characters. While a familiar face is piloting the plane.

‘Rise Up’ Lyrics

I told you I’d rise up

You’d be mistaken if you thought I was gone
Cause I’ve been waiting for this moment too long (Whoa)
Just to see the worry in your eyes

I bet you thought that I had fallen away
It never crossed your mind that there’d be a day (whoa)
I’d return to look you in the eyes

Don’t pray for me, You said there’s no hope in forgiving
Your happy to just leave me for the dead
Well time has passed I’m very much the living
And all that’s left is to leave you seeing red

So when you think you’ve got me by a thread
You need think again
Cause I know you never thought that this would be how it ends
I told you I’d rise up.

I don’t believe that you have got any soul
You’re just a breed of your own kind all alone (Whoa)
An architect of your own decline

Nothing’s sacred anymore that’s the past
Its falling further even more out of grasp (Whoa)
You’re replaced and running out of time

No prayers from me, you see I’m not the one you think will
Just let it go and leave it all behind
You’re dead to me and I don’t even feel guilt
Just take a look cause it’s time for me to rise

So when you think you’ve got me by a thread
You need think again
Cause I know you never thought that this would be how it ends
I told you I’d rise up.

I don’t want to close my eyes
I can never get enough
Like the sun it’s time that I rise up

So when you think you’ve got me by a thread
You need think again
Cause I know you never thought that this would be how it ends
I told you I’d rise up.
