Welcome to The Daily Drop, your roundup of the latest news from the rock, metal, punk, emo, hardcore, and alternative scenes. Today we’ve got new music news featuring Death Cab For Cutie, Tim Henson, Haggard Cat, The Hu, and Samurai Pizza Cats.

Here’s everything you need to know from January 26th 2026.

Death Cab for Cutie Join ANTI- Records

Indie rockers Death Cab For Cutie have inked a deal with ANTI- Records. It sees the quintet return to an independent label since leaving Barsuk for Atlantic Records in 2004.

“We are thrilled to be joining the roster at ANTI- which includes some of our favourite artists, old friends and in many cases, both,” shares frontman Benjamin Gibbard. “We also can’t wait to begin this new chapter with the wonderful staff at ANTI- and share with you what we’ve been working on.”

Death Cab For Cutie‘s last album, ‘Asphalt Meadows,’ was released in September 2022.

Polyphia’s Tim Henson Shares Solo Track

Guitar virtuoso Tim Henson has released a solo track called ‘Original Sin’.

Known for his work with Polyphia, the track marks the first time Henson has produced, mixed, and shaped every element into a release on his own.

“‘Original Sin’ started as something digital with synths and keys, but once I translated it to my nylon-string guitar, everything clicked. I wanted to play with contradiction: a waltz that feels like it’s driving forward, something elegant but uncomfortable,” Henson stated on how the track came together. “Conceptually, it’s about choice. If you’re forced to do the right thing, it doesn’t mean anything. That idea – freedom, temptation, consequence – is something I’ve been thinking about a lot.”

Haggard Cat Detail ‘The Pain That Orbits Life’

Beloved Nottingham rock duo Haggard Cat have confirmed their third album, ‘The Pain That Orbits Life’, will be released this Spring. The post-hardcore/alt-rock outfit has teamed up with Church Road Records for its release on May 8th.

“We worked on this album for a very long time. It’s rare that at this stage in your career you get to spend the longest you ever have on a body of work, but this time, not in any small way due to the circumstances surrounding us both in the world and in our own lives, that’s where we found ourselves,” shared vocalist/guitarist Matt Reynolds and drummer/backing vocalist Tom Marsh. ”

We definitely didn’t feel it at the time, but now we’re super thankful for the time that fate gave us to create this record. It was a journey of self-reflection and personal growth, and what we have arrived at is an album that’s more evolved, more deeply personal and most of all more definitively Haggard Cat than anything that’s come from us before it. We’re incredibly proud of this record, and we absolutely can’t wait for you to hear it”

The announcement also sees them share a new track called ‘I Hate It Here’.

The release of ‘The Pain That Orbits Life’ will be followed by a UK tour. It’ll begin in Nottingham on May 9th, before heading to Manchester (14th), Glasgow (15th), Newcastle (16th), London (28th), Southampton (29th) and Bristol (30th).

The Hu Unleash New Single (‘The Real You’)

Mongolian rock group The Hu have debuted a new track titled ‘The Real You’.

Its title is derived from the Mongolian proverb, “Don’t worry about what is on top of a person’s head, just worry about what is not on yours.”

“‘The Real You’ single is the representation of our forthcoming new album,” says The HU’s Temka (tovshuur player, throat singer). “While we have traditional songs that have our signature rhythm in our third album, there are few upbeat, fast songs such as this single. We recorded this song thinking of our ancestors, riding fast on the horse back through the landscape. Listen to this song to express the feelings you have buried inside and feel the overwhelming energy we pass through to you. Enjoy!”
