The Dirty Nil’s New Single Sends You Into a ‘Spider Dream’

Last month, longtime Already Heard favourites, The Dirty Nil revealed details of their new album, ‘The Lash’. Due for release on July 25th through Dine Alone Records, it sees the Canadian duo take a more visceral and back-to-basics approach. An example of this is their new single, ‘Spider Dream’.

With its atmospheric guitars and drifting percussion, it’s a considerable change of tone from The Dirty Nil‘s often distortion-heavy sound. Instead, it sees vocalist/guitarist Luke Bentham and drummer Kyle Fisher provide a track they’re describing as their “most Beatles-sounding song.” ‘Spider Dream’ proves to be a hazy detour into nostalgia, as Bentham finds surreal peace in nightmares.

“I woke up one morning, completely refreshed by a nightmare,” vocalist/guitarist Luke Bentham explains. “It was a strange feeling but enough to animate a song. I had also just watched the Beatles documentary that the Lord of the Rings fella made, so I was inspired to use more jangly chords than I usually do. It was a strange one to bring to the band, but the arrangement came together instantly, and it never changed from the first time we played it.”

The Dirty Nil will be back in the UK in October, supporting Spanish Love Songs, before playing the UK dates of the Common Thread Tour.
