The Menzingers Announce New Album ‘Everything I Ever Saw’

The Menzingers have announced their new album, ‘Everything I Ever Saw’, due July 17th via Epitaph. They have also shared its lead single, ‘Chance Encounters,’ alongside a music video directed by Britain Weyant and the band.

Produced by Will Yip (Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy) at Memory Music Studios in Philadelphia, the 11-track record also features previously released single ‘Nobody’s Heroes’.

Having spent two decades together, The Menzingers‘ eighth album sees them reflect on life-altering change, where marriage, divorce, loss, and growth collide with a renewed creative urgency.

“So much changed in our lives and in the world while we were making this record, and somehow, it all pulled us deeper into the band and deeper into our friendship,” says vocalist/guitarist Tom May. “Twenty years in and this is the most connected we’ve felt to what we’re doing. With ‘Everything I Ever Saw’, we wanted to lean into all of it, head on. The whole damn thing.”

As for ‘Chance Encounters,’ it showcases the band’s renewed urgency and channels it with hard-earned wisdom. As always, lead vocalist and guitarist Greg Barnett is reflective and earnest, yet sees the band living in the present.

The band plays Slam Dunk Festival in Hatfield on May 23rd and Leeds on May 24th.

Oakwood Preview ‘Blurred Away’ with ‘Fields Behind the House’

Texas trio Oakwood continue to preview their debut album, ‘Blurred Away’. Their latest offering is the record’s closing track, ‘Fields Behind the House’.

The track sees vocalist Mathew Dwyer wrestle with the vulnerable reality and permanence of loss. Backed by a glistening example of Midwestern emo, the West Texas three-piece, completed by Noah Roots (drums) and TJ James (guitar/bass), executes a compelling, warm tone that matches Dwyer’s aching tone.

‘Blurred Away’ arrives May 29th on Memory Music. It was recorded with Phil Odom (Glare, Militarie Gun, Durry) and mastered by Will Yip.

Super Sometimes Drop Third Single ‘Learned My Lesson’

‘Learned My Lesson’ is the third single to land ahead of Super Sometimes‘ new album, ‘Show the World What’s Underneath’.

While the San Diego trio have carved out a reputation for writing infectious pop-punk, ‘Learned My Lesson’ pushes them into unusual territory.

Written in a single afternoon with Chris Freeman of Hot Mulligan, the track leans into pop-leaning melodies, synth, organ, and tambourine, taking direct influence from Bloc Party and Hot Mulligan.

“Chris really pushed our boundaries on this track, challenging us not to make just another run-of-the-mill pop-punk song. With a greater reliance on pop-leaning melodies, synth, organ, and tambourine, the song was intentionally very different from most of our older work in order to let the melodies and lyrics speak for themselves,” the band explain.

‘Show the World What’s Underneath’ is due to be released May 15th via Pure Noise Records.

The band are currently on tour across North America supporting Arm’s Length, The Callous Daoboys, and Harrison Gordon.

HAMMOK Shares New Single ‘Tap Water’

With HAMMOK‘s forthcoming album ‘When Does This Place Become Our Scene’ due June 5th via Sargent House, the Oslo trio has shared its third single, ‘Tap Water’.

Following ‘Gooning For Free’ and ‘The Scene’, ‘Tap Water’ shifts into softer, more groove-driven territory, with angular guitars. The accompanying video, directed by Christoffer Bya, was shot at Bromsjordet skatepark in Horten, Norway, a place closely tied to the band’s early days.

“The song plays with the idea of self-sabotage and reaching out for an exchange of energy,” explains vocalist/guitarist Tobias Osland. “It’s not enough to do something just to say it’s done, it needs to be done for a reason and for actual effect, not for show.”

Changing Places in the Fire Detail Debut Album & Share ‘A Reason to Fall’

Venezuelan prog-rock/post-metal act Changing Places in the Fire have confirmed their debut self-titled album. The news arrives alongside their new single, ‘A Reason to Fall’. The record arrives July 24th via Wild Thing Records.

The aforementioned track showcases a dynamic blend of prog textures with intense metal, which has seen Changing Places in the Fire be compared to Deftones and Porcupine Tree.

“‘A Reason to Fall’ was the first song Daz (Medrano) wrote vocals for when we sent him the early material,” says keyboardist Alfredo Ovalles. “He came back almost immediately with the full melody and a large part of the lyric already there. That instinctive response shaped the emotional direction of the record. The song lives in that uncertainty between departure and arrival, which runs through the whole album.”

As for the album itself, ‘Changing Places in the Fire’ is described as “the sound of the zeitgeist, a dreamlike journey into the labyrinths of the human condition”.
