#NewMusicFriday: May 22nd 2026

As the end of the football season ends (thankfully), and the festival season really begins, this week’s round of #NewMusicFriday offers a handful of notable releases. It’s led by the return of two homegrown modern rock bands. Marmozets make a comeback with revitalised purpose with their third album, ‘CO.WAR.DICE’. It’s their first record in eight years. For fans of ‘A’, the wait for new material has been even longer. Over 20 years, to be precise. The Suffolk veterans come back with ‘Prang’. It sees the quintet give their take on the modern world as frontman Jason Perry shares his observations on celebrity culture, yet counters with moments of insecurity.

There is also the return of Derby emo band, Crash of Rhinos‘Logbook’ is their first album in over a decade. It’s the result of quietly reforming four years ago, vowing not to remerge until the record was ready. Countering long overdue returns is XCOMM. The hotly-tipped Californian outfit release their debut album, ‘Time To Burn’. It sees them provide a frenzied and ferocious brand of hardcore punk with plenty of youthful vigour.

Today’s other releases see Dance Gavin Dance revisit some old favourites on ‘Tree City Sessions 3’. Versatile Australian-based alt-rock rapper Ecca Vandal drops ‘Looking For People To Unfollow’. Three of the UK’s most promising names deliver new music. First of all, Nottingham genre-blending duo ALT BLK ERA return with an EP called ‘Our World’. Brighton-based WREX confront anxiety via their brand of electro alt-rock on ‘Sadworld’. Finally, Knives‘ debut album, ‘Glitter’, gets a complete reworking on ‘Reglitter’ with help from The Callous DaoboysCLT DRPDeath Goals, and more.

Some of the other noteworthy releases that stand out today come from Aussie rockers Hands Like Houses, technicolour UK progressive/math rockers MAEBE, glam/art rock band Not Richard & Her Majesty, and the always reliable ambient instrumentalists, Hammock.
