After teasing fans in recent days, Lonely The Brave have announced that founding vocalist Dave Jakes has rejoined the band. The vocalist and songwriter was part of the band’s first two albums, ‘The Day’s War’ (2015) and ‘Things Will Matter’ (2016). He would depart the band in 2018.
In a letter to fans on their mailing list, Lonely The Brave detailed their timeline as a band, stating they initially came together as friends in 2007 through the local Cambridge music scene. They later share that at the start of the year, “Those friends from 2007 got in a room together for the first time in nearly a decade.” In November, they will be playing two headline shows together for the first time in almost a decade.
“The five of us reconnecting was something totally organic and unexpected. There was no big pre-conceived plan to start playing with Dave again, but it’s been the best thing ever. To all be in a rehearsal room together again, hearing his voice with the songs we wrote, being the band we were when we first started all this… It’s incredibly special and something all five of us are not taking for granted,” shares guitarist Mark Trotter. “The only reason we are here, coming back as our original lineup, is based solely on a sense of friendship, fun and freedom. It’s exciting for all of us, and we can’t wait to see you all at these two shows. They will be the first of many, but are definitely the only shows this year. Once the tickets are gone, they are gone. See you in November!”
In the years since Jakes’ departure, Lonely The Brave continued with Jack Bennet (Grumble Bee) for two albums, including 2023’s ‘What We Do To Feel’. Meanwhile Jakes would release a solo record before forming Interlaker with Jack Wrench of Arcane Roots in 2023.
Tickets for their upcoming shows go on general sale on Friday, July 24th. Pre-sale tickets will be available on Wednesday, July 22nd and Thursday, July 23rd.
