Taking Back Sunday Release First New Track in Four Years (‘The One’)

Taking Back Sunday

Taking Back Sunday have returned with their first new song in four years. It’s called ‘The One‘.

It sees the quartet evolve their sound yet retain the emotive choruses that have seen Taking Back Sunday become so influential. With Adam Lazzara’s towering vocals, John Nolan’s atmospheric guitar, and the grounded rhythmic work of Shaun Cooper (bass), and Mark O’Connell (drums), it’s a stirring comeback.

“‘The One’ is a sweet love song—full-on John Cusack holding a boombox,” the band says in a nod to the classic 80’s cinema moment in Say Anything. “We’ve been waiting a long time to share this song and we’re so excited that we finally can. We hope you love it as much as we do.”

Described as an “inspiring declaration of love, hope, and acceptance”‘The One‘s origins came from a riff Cooper wrote when his grandmother died. “Devastated with overpowering sadness, he found comfort in writing music and initially titled the riff ‘Posivibes’ in an effort to find some light through the darkness. He never shared the story of the title or how that riff came together with us until after it was complete”, Taking Back Sunday explained. “Shaun didn’t want his story affecting the ultimate meaning of the song, because it’s actually an uplifting one.”

The track is also their first release since signing with LA-based indie label, Fantasy Records, earlier this year. While the conclusion of the video of ‘The One‘, which you can view below, hints at further new material.
