To mark the 10th anniversary of their fourth album, ‘COPE’, Manchester Orchestra, have surprised fans with a live album. ‘COPE Live at The Earl’ was recorded in front of fan club members at the intimate 300-capacity venue in East Atlantia.
The live album is available on digital streaming platforms now, with a vinyl and CD release scheduled for September 6th through Loma Vista Recordings. Fans can pre-order the physical edition of ‘COPE Live at The Earl’ here. Its release is also accompanied by a concert film of the show.
‘COPE’ was released on April 1st 2014, and saw Manchester Orchestra embrace heavier sound compared to their first three albums. Reflecting on the album, frontman Andy Hull stated, “COPE remains my favorite little piece of madness that we have conjured as Manchester Orchestra. The album was made during a time of both exhilarating freedom and an understandable fear of our future. Being 100 percent independent at the time, I look back proudly at our band. We created what we internally needed to create, regardless of anyone’s opinions but our own.”
Hull also spoke about the recording of the live album; “Around a year ago we rented out the legendary EARL in East Atlanta to celebrate ‘COPE’ and performed the album in its entirety to our fan club. It was truly epic. Raw, loose as hell and incredibly fun. As the five of us crammed into Tim’s car on the hour long drive home (the way it should be after playing THE EARL) we almost ran out of gas. I remember thinking that even if we got stranded we would make the most of it and eventually get home. We would laugh and work our way through this hurdle the same way we have in the past.”
What is Manchester Orchestra’s Touring Plans?
Manchester Orchestra will be returning to the UK in July as they make their debut at the 2000trees Festival. They then continue celebrating the 10th anniversary of ‘COPE’ with a run of US dates in September, with support from Militarie Gun.
