The Dirty Nil are fast-approaching the release of their new album, ‘The Lash’. Ahead of its July 25th release (via Dine Alone Records), the Ontario duo have shared another track from the record, ‘Fail In Time’. The single is a welcome addition to The Dirty Nil‘s catalogue, showcasing their proven flair for big guitars. However, it also emphasises ‘The Lash’s stripped-back approach. Furthermore, as guitarist/vocalist Luke Bentham explains, the track is bleak. “When true joy enters your life, you know it’s got a return ticket to wherever it came from.”
Bentham also discussed how the song came to be, including the addition of its hardcore breakdown. “I wrote the chorus of the song first and wanted to make the verses as triumphant as possible – we even got an ‘I Think You Should Leave’ reference into the second. Then we hit the pre-chorus where happiness begins to fade. The chorus is about knowing it’s over… that little spark is gone. [Engineer] Vince [Solivari] insisted we put a hardcore breakdown in at the end, and I’m glad we listened to him.”
‘Fall In Time’ is the fourth single taken from ‘The Lash’. ‘Rock N’ Roll Band,’ ‘Spider Dream,‘ and ‘Gallop of the Hounds’ have all been shared in recent months.
The Dirty Nil will be back in the UK in October, supporting Spanish Love Songs, before playing the UK dates of the Common Thread Tour.
