Album Review: Velvet Star – All Or Nothing EP

Yorkshire quintet Velvet Star have brought their old-school rock infused EP ‘All Or Nothing’ to the table. With a heady fusion of old rock n’ roll and grit, this makes for a promising EP.

Opening track ‘Bring It On’ explodes with aggression and fury; they produce grinding riffs and demonic drumming, twisting them together to make for a wonderfully sexy track. ‘Crash & Burn’ exemplifies lead vocalist Danny Jones extraordinary and impressive vocal range. He belts out the lyrics with incredible power but knows when to rein himself in too.

So far, ‘All Or Nothing’ has proven just why Velvet Star have toured with other rock n’ roll groups such as ’Faster Pussycat,’ ‘The Treatment’ and ‘The Star Rats’ to name but a few. They’re a breath of fresh air in a market that can seem stiflingly boring at times.

They crash into ‘Glad You’ve Gone’, featuring face melting riffs and a monster bassline. And when they end with ‘Overrated’, we’re suitably impressed. The young energy that Velvet Star possess hasn’t failed them once throughout the duration of the EP; therefore, things can only go up from here.

4/5

‘All Or Nothing’ EP by Velvet Star is released on October 29th.
