Alkaline Trio Show Their Sinister Side on ‘Versions Of You’

Alkaline Trio

Alkaline Trio are just a matter of weeks from releasing ‘Blood, Hair, And Eyeballs’. As another taster, the punk three-piece have shared a third track from the record. ‘Versions Of You’ sees bassist/vocalist Dan Andriano taking lead vocals, while guitarist Matt Skiba and since-departed drummer Derek Grant carry the track with a disjointed, hypnotic rhythm.

From the start there was something really exciting about this one, a raw energy we didn’t want to let go. I was playing guitar and showing a part to Cameron (Webb – producer), Matt (Skiba) grabbed a bass and created this killer disjointed groove under what became the verse,” explained Andriano.“It felt raw and ferocious, and we knew that’s what we had to capture, so that’s how we did it when the red light came on.”

Lyrically, ‘Versions Of You’ is delivered in Alkaline Trio‘s recognisable style, proving to be dark and sinister. Andriano commented, “it’s a song about sorting through the rubble of a broken friendship and realizing there’s just nothing there to try and rebuild… that maybe the whole thing was artificial and driven by self-serving motives.”

‘Blood, Hair, And Eyeballs’ is set to be released on January 26th via Rise Records.
