Washington D.C. duo Origami Angel have revealed details of their new album. It’s called ‘Feeling Not Found’ and will be released through Counter Intuitive on September 27th. It sees the emo pair team up with Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight, The Wonder Years). The album was recorded at Yip’s Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
The announcement of ‘Feeling Not Found’ describes the album as “being lost in an oblivion of digital information”, with its 14 songs focusing on “the desperate struggle to reconnect to how it feels to be human and whole.”
“I was looking at America as this digital silicon hellscape,” says Origami Angel vocalist/guitarist Ryland Heagy when discussing his mindset in writing ‘Feeling Not Found’. “What came to me was, in this amalgamation, this sea of randomness, I felt not found, you know? It speaks to where we were as a band, and where I was as a person. For about three years until we finished this album, I was in a very, very lost place in my life, and everything felt very random and unstable.”
As for connecting with Will Yip, Heagy’s late cousin had worked with the producer in 2010. However, after this passing in January 2023, Yip reached out to Ryland, showing compassion and urged him on as Heagy struggled with the death of his cousin. ‘Feeling Not Found’s opening track, ‘Lost Signal’, hones in on lost and a “life-altering affirmation” Heagy experienced during a moment of static noise at his cousin’s funeral.
Origami Angel has also Shared Two New Tracks
The announcement sees two tracks from the album being shared. The first, ‘Dirty Mirror Selfie’, serves as a sun-swept, thought-provoking power-pop jam with crushing easycore riffs thrown in. Whereas ‘Where Blue Light Blooms‘ dwells in lyrical paranoia with breezy verses before radiantly exploding in the chorus. Together, they exemplify Heagy and drummer Pat Doherty’s broad musical scope that has seen the duo go down numerous avenues; metalcore riffs, jazzy indie rock, electronic, hip-hop, and more.
‘Feeling Not Found’ will also include ‘Fruit Wine’, which was released this past Spring.
