As the release of their new album, ‘Feeling Not Found‘, gets closer, Washington D.C. emo-punk powerhouse duo Origami Angel has treated fans to another double single/video.
The pair of high-octane tracks, ‘Sixth Cents (Get It?)’ and ‘secondgradefoofight’, highlight vocalist/guitarist Ryland Heagy and drummer Patrick Doherty’s well-measured ferocity and melodic nouse. The former is a pounding, energetic number that provides a sharp and necessary commentary on the music industry.
“The music industry can be a winding roller coaster, spinning you in directions you can’t predict. The wholesome, artistic nature of your work is constantly in a tug-of-war with the necessity to produce profit for yourself and others,” said Heagy when commenting on ‘Sixth Cents (Get It?)’. “Many artists have the bulk of their income taken away by predatory labels. This song comes from a place of frustration, and is almost laughing at the industry speak that comes from the powers that be.”
It’s joined by ‘secondgradefoofight‘. At first, it hints at a lighter Origami Angel, yet the angst soon comes into full force. Lyrically, it sees Heagy expresses deep frustration with mental and emotional overload.
It’s accompanied by an entertaining video that sees Ryland and Patrick living in a fever dream, paying homage to their favourite videos. The clip sees Origami Angel replicate classic visual clips from Green Day (‘Basket Case’), Phoebe Bridgers (‘Kyoto’), Modern Baseball (‘Your Graduation’), Taking Back Sunday (‘Cute Without the ‘E’ (Cut From the Team)’), Smashing Pumpkins (‘1979’), and Foo Fighters (‘Everlong’).
‘Feeling Not Found’ will be released through Counter Intuitive on September 27th.
