New Our Nameless Boy Single Released (‘Leaving Party’)

Our Nameless Boy - Leaving Party

Bristol based alt-rock outfit Our Nameless Boy have returned with a new track called ‘Leaving Party’.

It sees the quartet deliver an emotionally-driven track with a stringent socio-political influence.

“’Leaving Party’ was a reaction to the dangerous rhetoric of the likes of Suella Braverman et al. I guess I was trying to fill what felt to me to be a void in empathy, compassion and humanity left by such people,” explains Our Nameless Boy vocalist Iain Gorrie. ‘LP’ is an attempt to write from the perspective of a father fleeing war with a young daughter, having lost his wife in a bombing. I try to imagine as best I can the sense of loss and hopelessness in a position like that (“… that decision, like my love, was taken from my hands”).”

‘Leaving Party’ follows Our Nameless Boy‘s 2021 debut full-length, ‘Colour from the Doves’. The introspective collection focused on Gorrie’s cancer diagnosis. However, the band have turned a lyrical corner with ‘Leaving Party’ taking a more considerate approach, trying to make sense of the world around them. “Since then I have wanted to focus my writing more outwardly. It took me a little time to figure out what that focus and my angle should be, and I vaguely landed on an attempt to critique- but also better understand the modern human condition,” states Iain.

The release of ‘Leaving Party’ comes as Our Nameless Boy are set to join Linkin Park tribute band, L1nkn P4rk for three shows, starting tonight.

‘Leaving Party’ Lyrics

I’ve tasted fear, I’ve tasted hatred, I’ve tasted the ground
Been driven mad, been driven from my home
The sun won’t even leave a mark as deadly as this
As that decision, like my love, was taken from my hands

As I subject myself to the will of the land
I’ve never known what it means to have agency
Is this a den of wolves? Am I a travesty?
Why mark this as a scourge when you could label me a thief
How can I make this real for you?

It all sounds the same to me
So if it’s all the same with you
I’ll forget everything you said
And if I fall down upon your humble throne
Will you even think to cleanse it all?

Pound for pound, it doesn’t go very far
It’s a stretch between a family left so light on its feet
We can’t say no to that, can’t say it’s not enough
So treat me like you wouldn’t make it all about yourself

It all sounds the same to me
So if it’s all the same with you
I’ll forget everything you said
And if I fall down upon your humble throne
Will you even think to cleanse it all?

You can’t make a house a home
And lose the feeling that these walls will crumble away
You can’t make a house a home
As you refuse to shelter anyone but your own

It all sounds the same to me
So if it’s all the same with you
I’ll forget everything you said
And if I fall down upon your humble throne
Will you even think of me at all?
