Exist Immortal has been representing the UK tech/prog metal scene for several years, providing spinning riffs and catchy melodies aplenty. Latest single, ‘Dreamscape’, captures the London-based band at considerably their most melodic. Although the quintet have far from reinvented themselves. ‘Dreamscape’s crushing guitars and throbbing middle groove show ExIm have plenty are metallic might left in their arsenal.
Nevertheless, it is the soaring melodies of vocalist Meyrick de la Fuente that undoubtedly shine through. Matching with the escapist view of its title, ‘Dreamscape’ neatly leans into Exist Immortal‘s pop sensibilities with clarity. “It is about escapism into a simulated/enhanced world, contrasting reality with a digital realm as a metaphor for seeking inner peace and creative freedom,” the band explained as they reflected on trying “to find tranquillity in a chaotic world.”
On speaking about the musical side of the track, the quintet noted the track’s energy and “nice melodies”. “It was a really cool opportunity to emulate some of the more upbeat and catchy elements that we love about other music,” ExIm said.
Its video captures the band “living the dream”, touring Japan and supporting influential progressive metallers Cynic. “It’s a super upbeat and energetic song and it perfectly mirrored the energy everyone was bringing while we were on that trip,” Exist Immortal commented.
‘Dreamscape’ is the second in a series of stand-alone singles Exist Immortal will be releasing throughout 2024. Following ‘Play Pretend’, a denser offering, the band believes this new format allows each track to get the full attention it deserves.
With further new material expected soon, ExIm will be playing two shows with Seek & Strike label mates My Favourite Nemesis in May.
