Good news! Winter is almost over, and Good Kid are here to provide the song to see us through to the warm weather days. ‘Summer’ is their latest single, taken from their upcoming ‘Good Kid 4’ EP. The Canadian indie-pop outfit serves up a breezy earworm. Highlighted by vocalist Nick Frosst’s delicious wordplay and equally gorgeous guitar melodies, ‘Summer’ is the antidote to brighter days.
‘Good Kid 4’ will see the light of day later this month, and sees the quintet build on from the tight-knit online community they have accumulated in recent years. Away from routinely producing their infectious blend of j-pop, pop-punk, and indie-punk, Good Kid are firmly in the creative community. Whether that’s collaborating with visual creators such as XrayAlphaCharlie, Julien Solomita, and Trash Taste (the former animated the video for ‘Summer’), making their entire discography completely free to YouTube and Twitch creators, or having their music featured on YouTube’s most subscribed creator – Mr. Beast.
As for the EP itself, the tracks on offer sees Good Kid reflect on a very active period for the five-piece. “The band is coming away from the busiest touring year of our musical careers, and this 4th EP “Good Kid 4” is the product of that journey. Many of the songs on this album are about the experience of music itself and how it has impacted our lives immensely,” clarifies Good Kid guitarist David Wood.
Besides ‘Summer’, ‘Good Kid 4’ will feature past singles such as the ridiculously catchy ‘Bubbly’, the jagged grooves of ‘Break’, and ‘From Ths Start’, which was streamed more than 1 million times in 24 hours. Collectively, they capture Good Kid‘s uplifting sound radiantly, yet lyrically stand on their own merit.
“We wrote songs about facing anxiety with your friends, and about dancing. We wrote songs about reaching your breaking point, and about the hotels we would stay in night after night which eventually blended into one, endless timewarp of beige hallways. We wrote a song about the Summer we never wanted to end, and the only song that we didn’t write went over so unbelievably well with our fans, we had no choice but to record our own version of it.”
Furthermore, their growing success isn’t just online. Outside of their native Canada, Good Kid have been spreading their message of joy, creativity, and inclusivity further afield. In the coming months, they will embark on North American dates before returning to the UK and Europe in September. Both tours follow previous sold-out runs on both sides of the Atlantic.
