Having delivered the best mixtape (that’s what they called it) of 2023 in ‘The Brightest Days,’ Origami Angel have returned with a new track. ‘Fruit Wine’ sees vocalist/guitarist Ryland Heagy and drummer Pat Doherty team up with Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip (Title Fight, Movements, The Wonder Years, Turnstile).
In the past, Heagy and Doherty have shown their versatility, embracing surf-rock harmonies, heavy breakdowns, and an assortment of hooks in their arsenal. This time out, Origami Angel utilises elements of 90’s alt-rock and combines it with reliable emo melodies, with the occasional chugging riff thrown in for good measure.
Its arrival comes as Origami Angel hits the road Stateside with Microwave, Heart Attack Man, and Carpool Tunnel for a month-long tour.
With each release seeing the Gami Gang grow in numbers, we wouldn’t be surprised if ‘Fruit Wine’ is the first taste of whatever Origami Angel does next. Whether that’s another infectious mixtape, an ambitious album (see 2021’s ‘Gami Gang’) or an EP. Either way, we’re sure to be on board with it.
‘Fruit Wine’ by Origami Angel is out now on Counter Intuitive Records.
